The second tier of the two-tier professional structure in Portugal. The name means Honor League and the name for the entire professional structure - Liga Portuguesa da Futebol Profissional - means Portuguese Professional Football League. It's often known as the Liga Vitalis after title sponsor bwin, an online betting company. The 16 clubs play each other twice (home and away) for a total of 30 games. The top two clubs are promoted and the bottom two relegated. The season runs from August to May.
