Description: The 15 clubs play each other three times (two home and two away) for a total of 42 games. The top two clubs are automatically promoted. The third team goes into a promotion/relegation playoff with the 16th team from the J1. There is no relegation from J2 though teams from the 3rd-tier Japanese Football League are occasionally promoted to J2. The season runs from March to December.
