Description:

The National First Division is the second tier of South African football, often referred to as the NFD. The 16 clubs are divided into two groups of 8 - Inland and Coastal and play each team in their group three times (two home and one away or the othe way around). The two group winners play for a promotion spot, while the loser of the playoff, the 2 2nd placed-clubs and the 15th team from the PSL play off for one spot in the following season's top league. The last placed club of each group is relegated to the third-tier Second Division.
