Description:

The top level of Russian football is known as the Russian Premier League, previously the Top League or Top Division. In 2001 the clubs in the Top Division formally broke apart from the rest of the Russian Professional Football League in a manner similar to England's Premier League. The 16 clubs play each other twice (home and away) for a total of 30 games. The bottom two clubs are relegated. The season runs from March to November.
