Description:

The Lega Pro Prima Divisione A is one of two third-tier leagues in the Italian football system. After many years of being called the Serie C (then split into Serie C1 and Serie C2) the third and fourth levels have been renamed the Lega Pro (Pro League). The third tier is the Prima Divisione (split into an A and B section) and the fourth tier is the Segunda Divisione (split into A, B and C sections). The 18 teams in the Prima Divisione A play each other twice (home and away) for a total of 34 games. The champions are promoted to Serie B. The 2nd-5th teams enter a promotion playoff, and the winner of that playoff is also promoted. The bottom team is automatically relegated to the Segunda Divisione. The 14th-17th teams enter a relegation playoff in which the 14th plays the 17th and the 15th plays the 16th. The two losers are relegated. The season runs from September to May.
