Description:
The Division 1 Södra (Southern) is one of two 3rd tier leagues in the Swedish system, along with the Division 1 Norra (Northern). Division 1 has only existed in its current format since 2006, previously clubs went directly between the 2nd tier Superettan and Division 2. The 14 teams play each other twice (home and away) for a total of 26 games. The champion is automatically promoted while the 2nd place team goes into a playoff with the 13th or 14th team from the Superettan. Meanwhile the bottom 3 clubs are relegated to the 4th tier Division 2. The season runs from April to October.
