Description:
The Regionalliga Süd (South Regional League) is one of three fourth-tier leagues in the German football pyramid, along with the Regionalliga Nord and the newly-created Regionalliga West. The regionalliga level had previously been the third-tier before the creation of the 3. Liga for the 2008-09 season. It is the top level of amateur football in Germany and can contain B teams from the 1st-3rd levels of the game. The Regionalliga Süd teams are drawn from the southern German states of Bavaria, Hessen and Baden-Württemberg.

The 18 teams play each other twice (home and away) for a total of 34 games. The season runs from July to May with a six-week winter break. The champions of Regionalliga Süd are promoted to the 3. Liga. The bottom 3 teams are relegated to the 5th-tier Oberliga.
